Jonathan, that’s all very well & good – but a great many of the electorate fail to see why we should be told by a collection of foreign powers why we should all suddenly have huge new public street lights. Or why we have to adopt the new allergen rules – at great expense to our country, knowing full well that the likes of Italy or France will just ignore them. Why our fishing stocks are depleted by the same collection of European powers & why the likes of Turkey & Belarus are being paid money by us, as pre-accession countries & whose populations will one day be entitled to live in our country.
The single market just isn’t that important any more & in any case, the World Trade Organisation is a much more relevant institution worldwide & we don’t even have our own seat.
We have heard the same tired arguments when politicians told us we must be in the single currency. What a disaster that could have been for Great Britain. The Eurozone is a failure – so is the European Union – for us!
