How did we get into this situation ?
Surely that is patently obvious. We have a Soviet socialised education system. The State cannot and should not provide anything because it will always be of poorer quality, higher cost and inadequate quantity to meet demand.
This is the lesson the Soviets learned and we are now learning. Eventually all states will wreck their economies. It’s just a natural, basic rule like the Pythagoras theorem. The only reason why it has taken longer is that we didn’t Sovietise the entire production process and allowed just sufficient free markets to exist to bankroll statist extravagance. Now the country has a £1.4 trillion debt and a deficit that is once again widening. The only way to perpetuate this hapless idiocy is to continue to borrow whilst holding interest rates at near zero. Eventually that can kicking must end and the illusion of free state services will vanish with it. By then it will be too late to do much at all.
