I understand that in Hong Kong, with its famously affordable (15 per cent, I believe) flat tax system, the newpapers publish details each year of the amount of tax paid by the richest handful of people.
This becomes a badge of honour for those concerned, giving bragging rights about how much tax they have paid, a neat surrogate for how rich they are.
If only we could change UK attitudes to wealth and get something similar going here…
