There is no doubt that women appear to have embraced the politically correct and health and safety nanny state obsession to a far greater extent than men. It is women who seem obsessed with health issues(NHS), whilst men just generally plod on until they die. It is nearly always a woman leading this campaign or that to ban something or the other, the most recent yesterday being the campaign to hide the front pages of newspapers from the stare of innocent sweet buying children, in case they are affected.
Most men of the left and the right, but probably excluding the metrosexual liberal handwringers in my personal experience rail against any interference in their lives, and effectively just want the state to sod off. As a kipper most of the women kippers I know come from the same mould, self reliant and confident in their ability to manage their lives without interference from the state.
Is this personality trait unique to UKIP?
I doubt it, though it is writ large across nearly all the kippers I know, and it is refreshing to see people coming on board finding their own political and individual self confidence. There will always be a large chunk of the population who need or prefer to hang onto nanny’s skirts, but increasingly we are seeing the evolution of a pre-welfare state political self confidence through the rise of UKIP, that is slowly being accepted by men and women alike.
