Reader’s Comment: Diversity, the state-enforced religion

I should no longer be surprised, but it still shocks me whenever an influential educationalist, in this case the Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge no less, spouts guff such as ‘Our excellence is built on diversity’. No, at all levels of education you build excellence through intellectual rigour and by strict enforcement of academic standards.
Before Diversity – invariably of colour or race, but seldom of thought or opinion – became the state-enforced religion, a University V-C parroting this vacuous slogan would have been risible; sadly, it now appears to be a compulsory requirement of the job.
