Well, well, well. When I was much younger Scotland was famous for its education and local services. These have now declined, although not as badly as in Wales. Where you do see the difference still is in how well maintained the small rural villages are, all with spotless working public conveniences, something which you do not get down south. Scotland works if you are old, retired and living in a country town. Then all those bribes, free prescriptions, free parking at hospitals etc pay off. How long this can continue depends really on the largesse of the English tax payer . . .
