In response to Harry Benson’s marriage lines: Broken homes, broken children, suemary wrote:
As a teacher I saw the truth of this over and over again. A marriage broke up and the children became very different people. Mum gets in a new lover and demands the kids call him ‘dad’. More disturbance. Almost always one of those two parents would say, ‘It was better for the kids.’ They lied. They broke up for purely selfish reasons with never a thought for their kids. One poor lad had FOUR ‘dads’ in a matter of five years. I met him some years later and he had tracked his real father down and the two were living happily together. He had been desperate to have him back through all his mother’s relationships.
