In response to Fox on Friday: The EU makes a stealthy move towards common European taxation, Bertie Wooster wrote:
As an online seller of digital goods I have already been obliged to collect and pay EU VAT to foreign EU governments for more than a year. As things stand, small one-man businesses working from the kitchen table can be audited and fined by the tax authorities in 28 different countries and there is a zero threshold, so this affects the very smallest online sellers just trying to make ends meet.
In my view forcing UK citizens to collect and pay taxes to foreign governments in which we have no interest or democratic say should have been reason enough to hold a referendum and Leave. The cost and time involved in admin is ridiculous for a small seller, while also resulting in far fewer sales overall.
Needless to say “Eurosceptic Dave” took a really tough line with Brussels over this one…
