In response to The Kathy Gyngell Interview: Rootless global elite need their wings clipped, says policy chief Goodhart, Bik Byro wrote:
There is of course the “aspiring Anywheres” – the Labour muesli and latte-drinking set who give their children foreign names and go bead-threading in Mozambique for their annual holiday.
They aspire to have the “anywhere” mindset because they think it makes them erudite and sophisticated and intellectual and superior to fellow mortals.
It fuels their desire to be “enriched” by immigration and to feel “European” by remaining in the EU.
The joke is, of course, that they are clearly “somewhere”, that somewhere being probably Islington. They will never dance on the world stage and will be laughed at and taken advantage of by those who really do.
