When SJWs witter on about ‘the occupation’ they make it sound to Millennials and Generation X that Israel suddenly marched into the West Bank to grab territory. They bank on younger people not knowing that Israel was on the point of being invaded by several Arab armies and made a pre-emptive strike. As the pre-1967 border is only a few miles east to west at its most narrow (four minutes flying time by helicopter), a pre-emptive strike was Israel’s defence doctrine.
Just before the strike Israel begged King Hussain of Jordan, the then occupier of the West Bank, not to get involved. Nevertheless, he sent his army and was routed. To their great surprise, the Israelis found themselves in possession of the ancient Jewish heartland and the Old City of Jerusalem.
I believe Israel is the only state voluntarily to cede or offer to cede territories won in a defensive war it didn’t start. Although I’m in favour of land for peace, there can be no deal that doesn’t impose a penalty for aggression.
