Reader’s Comment: Lady Hale would rather change the law than interpret it

In response to Jill Kirby: Now Lady Hale strikes another blow against what’s left of marriage, Colonel Mustard wrote:

Lady Hale has been married twice, most recently to a pensions ombudsman, and they both sit as part of the Law Commission. She is a self-confessed feminist who has declared that she wants “to see changes in the way society is organised, rather than wanting women to conform to male-determined roles”.

Newsflash for Lady Hale, who is not elected to speak for society. Society evolves. People who want to change the way it “is organised” are its enemies and usually end up as tyrants presiding over oppression and murder. Being a judge who should serve and interpret existing law and at the same time a radical political activist is a dangerous conflict of interest, which has the potential seriously to damage society rather than improve it.
