In response to David Kurten: Multicultural niceties give gangs a licence to groom, Gary Laconic Jr. wrote:
David’s article is an opportunity to remind ourselves that in 2017 Rotherham Council was shortlisted for an award as Social Work Employer of the Year, in response to which the council issued an irony-free statement that hailed its ‘outstanding work with vulnerable children’. http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/news/article/1326/rotherham_council_in_line_to_be_social_work_employer_of_the_year
The self-congratulatory announcement also allowed the head of children’s services, Ian Taylor – whom David quotes denying that the endemic sex crimes had anything to do with race, religion or culture – to lament, ‘This council suffered as a result of how issues were handled in the past.’
So now you know: the true victims of the Rotherham scandal were not the 1,500 abused girls, but the council and its social workers.
