The figures being bandied about are based on massive overdiagnosis.

Nowadays, when teenagers and students present to their schools/colleges with stress and anxiety (a normal feature of adolescence), instead of reassuring them, their tutors suggest they may have depression.

Cue more worries. Cue medication. Cue reliance on medication. A very vicious circle.
