In response to Chris McGovern: Our teachers are cracking up under pressure to be cultural commissars, Phil R wrote:
What parts of our county have the largest police presence? It will correlate with the areas of the most crime and least virtue.
As Christianity diminishes, virtue diminishes. The State will step in to try to impose order. It will do this by creating ever more restrictive laws and restrict freedoms. This in turn will restrict Christianity (as we have already seen) and lead to a further reduction in virtue. In the UK the downward spiral started many years ago and will continue. The spiral will stop either when the State either loses control completely, or the State is trimmed and freedoms re-established.
A police state with no freedom and millions of laws is no solution to a lack of virtue.
Just take schools. Teachers are now regulated and monitored and “virtuous” behaviour is externally imposed. Even down to the tiniest detail of what is taught and how teachers behave and, increasingly, think.
This was not thought necessary (nor was it) 60 – 70 years ago and this micro-management, backed by fear, was certainly not thought of as being at all desirable, in schools or indeed anywhere.
