In response to Laura Perrins: Tories for Corbyn could backfire spectacularly, Maurice Gosfield wrote:
Just as the Labour ‘morons’ who nominated Corbyn in the belief that he would be resoundingly defeated have been proved catastrophically wrong, the Conservatives need to take the threat of a Corbyn-led Labour party far more seriously than TobyYoung and other so-called Tories for Corbyn have done so far.
There’s a very good article by Richard Walker over on CapX (Corbyn Has Found The Fear), which explains how this unreconstructed socialist has surged in the leadership campaign and how he might yet capture the mood of the wider public. It should be required reading for all Conservatives, particularly those who complacently assume that Corbyn will be unelectable.
There’s a real threat here and one that Conservatives will have to defeat intellectually, rationally, emotionally and comprehensively. I think people like Danny Finkelstein in The Times see that but from the comments here, it’s clear that plenty of people don’t. I’d say that not to do so, is to repeat the disastrous misjudgement of people like Tristram Hunt, Frank Field and Chuka Umunna.
