In response to Cerberus: Dave takes another step towards fixing the Brexit vote, Mike Fowle wrote:

Cameron seems to be acting like John Major over Maastricht. The arguments for a referendum were overwhelming, even a No vote would have strengthened his hand in negotiations, but our leaders seem terrified of any suggestion that the UK might vote to Leave.

Of course, Mrs Thatcher was out when she started to make Eurosceptic noises, but the Tory party has never really recovered in my opinion from Major’s dishonesty. Not that that would worry Mr Cameron.
