In response to Kathy Gyngell: Welby should not let transgender rights warriors drive out his orthodox African brothers, JB wrote:
When demands are made by the ‘LGBT community’, for acceptance by the church, I’m always reminded of the Not the 9 O’clock News spoof of religious programming, ‘I Believe’, in which the question ‘The Devil, is he all bad?’ is asked.
Mel Smith plays trendy Anglican vicar,The Rev Lance Mountjoy, who believes that the Devil has “had a very bad press”, and is keen for Diabolists (Devil worshippers) to be embraced by the Church. The sketch lampoons the Church’s ‘progressive’ wing for having no discernible limits on what it will accept in order to appear ‘right on’ and modern.
The ‘LGBT’ agenda will kill the Church if this pantomime continues. What is the authority or attraction of a religion whose central ethos is ‘Believe whatever is convenient to your lifestyle’?
The Western Church is imploding and the future lies with Africa. Welby should embrace his African bishops and cast the ‘progressives’ adrift to go their own way.
