In response to Nick Wood’s Campaign Commentary: Dave speaks out on immigration – not before time, bogbrush wrote:
On the Mediterranean issue, there are three options:
- Mount rescue operations and land them in Europe, in which case vast increases in numbers will be stimulated and while deaths will fall as a per cent of the volume, many more will still die.
- Mount rescue operations and return everyone to the nearest North African land point. Lives will be saved (not all), and the disincentive to travel will be increased (fewer chances of achieving migration).
- Build a bridge and invite everyone across. It’s safe and humane, and obviously slightly controversial.
Not sure there’s anything else to do, apart from stand there doing nothing, hand wringing.
Hang on, I think I just realised which policy they’ll all go with!
