According to the latest Private Eye, the driving force behind all this is proprietor’s wife Lady Rothermere, who has said that the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday are too “hysterical” and embarrass her at dinner parties. She leaned on hubby to get rid of Melanie Phillips and Simon Heffer. Now she has her sights on Peter Hitchens because of his sympathetic stance towards Ukip and contempt for Cameron. Mr Hitchens is, supposedly, consulting his solicitors. Watch this space.
