Here’s a royal story told to me a few years ago by a very old French-Canadian Army driver. Serving in England in 1945, he stopped to help another truck driver with a puncture, and discovered the driver was Princess Elizabeth. The wheel was somewhat rusted so she hadn’t the strength to change it herself. Grateful for the help, she insisted on standing as he was a proper corporal (rather than using her honorary rank), and addressed him in French throughout. Humility is perhaps something many leaders lack today.
