Reader’s Comment of the Day: History teaches it’s best to keep Turkey at arms length

-

In response to Cerberus: Does David Cameron really think visa-free EU travel for nearly 80 million Turks makes Britain safer?, Otto Crum wrote:

A very clear article. The EU leaders, and that includes Cameron, are seemingly ignorant of history.

Turkey has never been part of European civilisation. The Turks destroyed Byzantium and have always coveted Eastern Europe.

So either the EU leaders are insane or it is a deliberate attempt by them to weaken and then destroy Europe for a purpose that cannot be made known to us. It was the ex-President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus who recently said that the leaders of the EU had declared war on their own people.

Usually that can only end in rebellion, but so supine have we become in the West that we could allow our leaders to have their way.
