The other state broadcaster – Channel 4 – is just as bad. In ‘Lorry Jumpers’, filmmaker Leo Maguire adopts a highly sympathetic attitude and even boards a lorry with the chancers. He gets arrested but of course then released to try again. Remarkably the main three people he was following all made it to Britain and, surprise surprise at least one has already been granted five years of asylum and is now being supported financially.
No wonder that they keep trying – criminally damaging fences, lorries, and goods because when they get here the streets really are lined with gold. For example, only around 30% of Somalis are in work, according to the Office of National Statistics.
