I am a Ukip supporter and voted Ukip last Thursday, in a constituency which was a one of the hotly contested Lab/Con marginals. I won’t deny I am pleased that the Tories won instead of Labour. But what I find even more encouraging is the sense that English voters still have a canny survival instinct. For years we have been sliding down the greasy pole of pandering to every kind of grievance culture and victimhood from the gay privilege campaigners to those most persecuted and victimised of all human beings, the Scots. Cameron is a sop to all these movements, as we know, but at least now he will have some true Conservatives standing over his shoulder instead of rainbow-man Clegg. Voters in England clearly sniffed the Labour/SNP rat and decided it was not in their interests to vote for them.
