In response to Kevin Lee: The venom directed at Farage shows how far Britain has lurched to the Left, grutchyngfysch wrote:
I think what really angers me is not that the various luminaries and gentlefolk of the liberal left profess to care about humanity, but that so often their policies (unwittingly, in many cases, I accept) result in keeping down or even worsening the lot of the poorest and the most vulnerable.
We are treated to a near-endless handwringing show of liberal anxiety, and yet what do they actually sell: unaffordable dependency, cultural segregation, the erosion of civic responsibility, the destruction of the family, and the degradation of public morality in favour of a supine relativism that goes after those who dare to question the New Orthodoxy on matters of sexuality, race and gender, but which cowers in abject silence in the face of Islamic terror.
Not only the leaders, but so often the followers. I cannot count the number of times I have been invited by lefty acquaintances to attend “awareness raising” lectures, or to proudly march in favour of the latest vacuous ethical fashion. But I also cannot count, because they are not there to be counted, those same citizens of the Left assisting the homeless, or caring for the elderly, or providing entirely undeserved assistance for the hordes of puking teenagers and young adults.
There are plenty of “dinosaurs” who do those things where I live. Plenty of “homophobic Christians” who volunteer time, resources and love for their fellow man. But virtually none of the new men and women our society has produced. Too busy “awareness raising” I suppose.
