I have noticed several times recently that these Twitter storms are suddenly blowing up to epic proportions and then it takes a while for a backlash to build. I think you have to expect this. I suspect that they are being deliberately organised and spread by activists so they grow very fast – the idea being to get them in the mainstream media so they become more widely known. However, in the end these activist-led Twitter storms are backfiring when the voices of reason kick in.
Let’s face it, Sir Tim Hunt comes across as about as offensive as Godfrey from Dad’s Army. It’s difficult to cast him in the role of some deranged “Mad Men” style misogynist. Here’s the great man himself discussing his life’s work.
