The problem is you cannot as a boy, look forward to becoming a man. It is verboten to be masculine. The feminisation of men in this country is appalling. White working class boys have no role models to be men. Black boys have had some male mentoring but none for white boys.
My grandson’s primary school class was asked what they would like to be when they grew up. He enthusiastically answered “a policeman”. He was informed that girls could also be in the police. As he is quite bright he said yes they could, but as he was going to be a man, he would be a policeman. He was told he would be a police person. He is obviously not allowed to be a man!
