The age-old mantra has been that people go into medicine because they want to help people. Now we see that it’s all about the money after all. My understanding is that in return for the new pay scheme on Saturdays the basic pay is going up 13 per cent. Which worker in the private sector wouldn’t settle for a 13 per cent pay rise? And please don’t tell me that it would not occur to somebody intelligent enough to go to medical school that they might have to work weekends.
