Many Conservative MPs will quietly go along with Remain believing this is their safest option but they are wrong.
A vote to stay will produce resentment among a majority of party supporters and at the next European crisis (which is inevitable – be it immigration, terrorism or economic failure) a backlash will sweep aside the pro Europhiles and the nodding heads, and then give power to one of the few ‘prophetic’ outers.
My bet is that some MPs do get this (including Boris perhaps). But it will be a pyrrhic victory that will leave the party in chaos.
