On the day the first atomic bomb was dropped on Japan the skies were not “peaceful”. The Japanese were still fighting fiercely on the sea, on the ground and in the air, which was the whole point. ‘Enola Gay’ might not have met opposition that day but plenty of other B-29 crews did and some of them, shot down and captured, were being executed by the Japanese military police.
The CND cannot, in hindsight, comprehend the savagery of the Pacific war or its total nature, let alone convey that to modern schoolchildren. The Left should not have been allowed to politicise the education process as they have done. It should be made illegal for a teacher to be a member or activist of any political party.
