The ‘mental health’ crisis has been self-procured by the promotion of SEAL (social and emotional learning) through schools. The drive for self-esteem encourages children to look within themselves for perfection and solutions to all their own as well as the world’s problems. Needless to say, these children are gutted when they cannot find it…
On the one hand, we see externally over-confident children who behave as if they are their own gods; they esteem themselves so highly that they indulge in self-worship on a daily basis via social media, setting up their own images in the form of ‘flattering’ photographs.
On the other, the adolescent mental health units are full to bursting with self-harming teenagers who find daily that their faith in themselves is insufficient but no teacher would dare tell them so.
