Trump is so popular not because of what he is, but because of what he is not.
He is anti-establishment. They hate him. Their problem is that they sold out to the Democrats years ago (recent example – Paul Ryan’s budget) and so conservative-minded people in the US are willing to back anyone who doesn’t represent the Washington mindset.
It’s similar to the rise of the Tea Party or to Ukip over here. The establishment is comprised of identikit career politicians who never take a position of principle on anything. We are fed up with it and so, it seems, are our American cousins.
