It’s true that Ukip has a targeting strategy. This is born out of political realism rather than narrowing of ambitions.
The big story after the election will be that Ukip will have replaced the Tories as the second party in large swathes of the country. This will be a game-changer.
Labour has had rotten boroughs for so long simply because the Tories are so toxic in those areas. Once it’s clear to the local electorates that there is an electoral option that is not the Tories, a lot of those rotten boroughs will fall in 2020 or 2025.
It’s all about establishing Ukip as a viable alternative in people’s minds. This is what the Labour party did in the 1920s. Now that Labour no longer represents the British working class, that baton will be taken up by Ukip.
