Reader’s Comment of the Day: We mere mortals can’t afford an affair

-

In response to Laura Perrins: On balance, I am glad the Bakewell crumpet was not my mum, Tricia wrote:

Bakewell is out of the Virginia Woolf stable. Privileged women who have always handed their children over to nannies to be their mother, pursued their own interests and dabbled in being “interesting”. The “interesting” bit is usually sexual in some form or other.

It would have to be a playwright she had the affair with, so avant-garde dear. We mere mortals are grounded in bringing money into the household, rearing our children, doing the chores and trying to ensure we keep our marriages alive.
