Reader’s Comment of the Day: We would not fight today because we are no longer one people

These fellows came from a homogeneous society which, although it wasn’t perfect, was at least all one people who believed that their country was in danger.

People would never make the same sacrifices today. Not just because of selfishness (which has always existed) but because there is no longer a homogeneous society to defend. Why risk your life for a country that is largely comprised of people of different ancestry, to whom you owe nothing and to which you have no duty?
