Eleri writes: Saudi Arabia refuses to take Biden’s phone calls. The Saudis have invited President Xi to pay a state visit to Riyadh. The emerging Eurasia group have announced they are planning a new financial system based on the Chinese yuan and dumping the dollar. Who can blame them? It will have far-reaching consequences for the West as the East rises. Who in the UK gave Johnson permission to lead the hue and cry on Ukraine, to press for crippling sanctions and to eagerly participate in weaponising economic warfare against Russia? There was no reason for the UK to become involved. With uniformity of opinion in Parliament, no effective mechanism exists for holding the government to account. Johnson is on his way to Riyadh to beg for oil. Seeing how the Saudis have summarily cast off the US, their long-term partner in crime, what’s the betting that puny Britain will be swatted pretty smartly and/or made to pay a premium for the black gold? There’s a cost to virtue-signalling.
