Reader’s comment: Oh for a mince pie

In response to Caroline ffiske: No holly, no trees, no Christmas lights please – it’s November!, mashedupspuds wrote:

Although I completely agree Christmas should not start until December I would love to have a few mince pies. I have been in Japan for ten years and the only pies that I have had was a lucky chance to go to a party held by the consulate (now defunct).

The only place to get any English food is at the British Embassy and that is many, many miles away and only serves the few.

The closest M&S is in Malaysia, but I can make a reasonable Christmas pudding in a rice cooker. I just hope once we leave the EU the luxuries of Christmases past will find their way to Japan. Although I would be much happier with Jaffa Cakes, salad cream, sausages and Wensleydale.
