Scruton was right about it being a stage adolescents pass through, at least in societies like ours, where the adolescents don’t have to break their backs to eat. The problem is that so many of our ‘elites’ remain adolescents. Put ’em all on a factory floor, knowing that if they lose the job they will starve – they’ll soon grow up.
