And let us all remember that sent into negotiate on behalf of this country (and behind the backs of the Cabinet and the Brexit Secretary) has been Ollie Robbins, an unelected and unaccountable civil servant, who May has dragged into her Brexit team from her undistinguished time at the Home Office.
It is Robbins who signalled to the EU that May would accept a Customs Union deal and it is he who brokered the agreement last week that the UK would stay in the CU and the Single Market for the foreseeable future (in other words remain within the EU).
We are now told that May has had to row back on this, for the lack of a deadline, but I do not believe it for one minute – it is reported that she and the EU are now trying to find a ‘form of words’ (i.e. a lie) to seal the deal.
Robbins has no place in negotiating anything on behalf of this country, he should be removed now. And May should follow him out of the door.
