In response to Ollie Wright: Paris ’68 wasn’t romantic, Ms Bakewell. It was thuggish and pointless, Ozfan wrote:
A few weeks back Roger Scruton was allowed on Start the Week with Marr and other guests. The other guests were reminiscing in Bakewell-style about Paris ’68. Scruton had actually been there, on an exchange scheme, watching the violence from his digs window. He nailed the poseur violence as elaborate performance art signifying nothing, and observed that the only working-class people he saw were the policemen being pelted with rocks by spoilt middle-class brats wearing Mao caps.
I swear I could hear Marr the student Maoist squirming in his studio seat. Brilliant.
