In response to Robert James: A long list of Remainers and Lefties? That’s diversity?, Ian Oliver wrote:
The divisive identity politics behind the Evening Standard’s awards is exposed in George Osborne’s antagonistic introduction: ‘a rebuff to all those who want to shut Britain off from the world and close our doors to the future’.
The hubris of it. Progressivists like Osborne are incapable of envisaging any future that is not more endless conquest by their own crusading against the dark forces of conservatism. Such is the highly flattering, smug belief system in which they cocoon themselves through the media that they control.
The truth about the future is surely going to be very different. China and Islam will eclipse the West in the second half of this century. As Western values rapidly submerge in the new world order, even Progressivists will start to wonder whether life was better under the old patriarchal Christian order than the world they are entering, beyond the control of Westerners of either Left or Right.
