Reader’s comment: The mark of the devil

In response to Janice Davis: How long before it’s a sin to be white?, Peter Evans wrote:

As Heather Mac Donald has vividly described in her superb new book, The Diversity Delusion: How Race and Gender Pandering Corrupt the University and Undermine our Culture, the Anglophone West is now prey to a vast diversity-enforcing bureaucracy – an officious gendarmerie of wholly superfluous busybodies informed entirely by fake ‘academic’ disciplines like Gender Studies, Women’s Studies and the various Ethnic Studies.

If you want to know why university tuition fees have spiralled to such excesses, look no further than the diversity bureaucrats employed at immense cost on all campuses to keep faculty and students in line with the latest intersectionalist-feminist oppression-hallucinations.

An example of the kind of thing these diversity ideologues get up to when they get their mitts anywhere near the minds of impressionable young undergraduates is the ‘welcome committee’ of enraged Black Lies Matter and Antifa brownshirts Mac Donald encountered while attempting to speak about the speciousness and dishonesty of the diversity warriors at Claremont McKenna College. A human blockade composed of these ranting, intimidating thugs prevented students and academics from entering the auditorium to hear her talk. At nearby Pomona College, so-called ‘students of colour’ announced that Mac Donald was a ‘fascist, white-supremacist, war hawk, transphobe, queerphobe, classist and ignorant of the interlocking systems of domination that produce the lethal conditions under which oppressed people are forced to live.’ Needless to say, she’s none of these things.

These privileged, cosseted students, who have a limitless treasury of knowledge at their fingertips on a beautiful, well-equipped campus, actually believe that they are at risk of their lives every day, because of pervasive racial hatred in the university setting. This is crazy, and they’ve been encouraged to swallow this fatuous bosh by employed diversity bureaucrats (not to mention by their predominantly radical left professors).

But the cancer is spreading off-campus and into society. People with these useless degrees, which expressly state that their aim is to create social activists, not scholars, are now replicating this madness in the HR departments of all major institutions and corporations. In imposing and enforcing their impoverished notion of diversity on all, they are achieving what they have achieved in the universities: division, resentment, polarisation and conflict. And, of course, the ruthless suppression of dissent. Question the value of this mad diversity in which everyone must look different but think the same, ask for concrete evidence of its benefits, and you will be denounced in the same way as Mac Donald, with the same robotic catch-phrases, and possibly fired.

This is why you can’t say ‘It’s OK to be white’. Under all regimes corrupted by this diversity dogma, whiteness is the mark of the devil, especially male whiteness. The anti-hierarchal intersectionalists are governed by a rigid hierarchy that divides humanity into an oppressor group – white males – and a continually balkanising multitude of oppressed victim groups, who are encouraged to blame the oppressors for all their misfortunes and hardships, including the very many that were born directly of their own bad decisions and folly.

The underlying delusion (which I’m ashamed to confess I once shared as a young Leftie) is that all human beings are exactly equal in ability and potential, so that all disparities in outcome are produced by power groups protecting their privilege through systematic, unfair discrimination. This imbecilic hooey didn’t survive contact with real working people after I’d left the university bubble, when I discovered that those who succeeded were clearly more competent, more conscientious, more hardworking and, crucially, more intelligent than those who didn’t.

If we can’t name truths like this, we are forced to wallow in ideological lies, where the only diversity that matters – diversity of viewpoint – is savagely repressed in favour of fatuous immutables like skin pigmentation and biological sex.

Civilisations that blind themselves to truth and reality eventually die. Welcome to the ship of fools that we’re all forced to sail in.
