I figured out how to close my company’s gender pay gap overnight.
It just requires me and a fellow Director to identify as female and we’re sorted! We both disappear from the column of males and appear on the other, altering the average of both so that the gap becomes negligibly in favour of female. Obviously anyone questioning this approach would be guilty of hate crime and is literally Hitler.
If I had to analyse why the current situation exists I’d have to explain all sorts of terrible things, like how we’ve never had a woman apply for a job in engineering, and men apply for night shift working (and so earn night shift premiums) far more than women. Remove those two facts and the gap disappears completely, but that sort of fact is unwelcome to some.
I wonder what happens to the global warming thing if explanatory models are discarded and we just conclude from all the snow that obviously it’s not happening? I suppose that’s when plain data is not the way to go.
