Reader’s Comment: The Tories have embraced virtue-signalling

In response to Tim Loughton MP: The whips are treating Tory MPs as their playthings, A real liberal wrote:

Labour invented political virtue-signalling, but it had messy socialist characteristics in their care. The Tories picked it up – applied a little free market efficiency – and have made it their own.

Bless Hitchens for reminding us of William Blake’s view: ‘He who would do good to another must do it in minute particulars. General good is the plea of the scoundrel, hypocrite and flatterer.’ The Tory leadership as scoundrels, hypocrites and flatterers? Some mistake surely.
