Reader’s comment: The weird ones

-

In response to Andrew Cadman: Blank, timid, selfish, cowardly – the leader the Tories deserve, Orvis J Sage wrote:

I keep writing to my MP, he keeps ignoring me, either he is very busy or he is just not interested. Either way he has lost my vote, he lost my wife’s some time ago. Very good article, it reminds me of something I read a long time ago. It was an article about why politicians in general were so odd and it made the point that all those strange people who inhabited the students’ union, organised votes for Palestine and would rather talk and plot than have a drink, the oddballs, the friendless, the frankly weird, they went on to become politicians. It’s all they know. We are now stuck with them.

May exemplifies this: if she was the head of the parish council and you saw her in the vicarage garden at the local fete, you would duck your head, turn swiftly and make for the tombola.
