In response to David Fraser: The inescapable fact – growing leniency equals rising crime, David wrote:
The problem which is well described in this article all started when the political, legal and cultural elite replaced our formerly Christian-based ideas about wrongdoing with the liberal one.
Christianity teaches that we are all potentially wrongdoers, who need careful nurturing when young away from wrongdoing and steering towards good behaviour. Armed with a conscience most will choose to behave. But if despite this teaching we choose to do wrong then we are guilty and deserve punishment.
The liberal understanding of human nature is that we are all basically good and only do wrong if social conditions force us into it. So wrongdoers are not guilty but victims of society’s flaws. Correct those flaws through social programmes and all will be sweetness and light.
The Judaeo-Christain understanding of human nature is clearly closer to the truth but remains unfashionable with the elite. Whilst they continue to follow their liberal delusions despite the ever-rising appalling reality of mayhem, death and violence the situation can only deteriorate even further. In cities where social trust between our formerly similar groups of people has been replaced by low-trust situations with little shared understandings between the very dissimilar cultures, the situation is seen at its most acute.
Unfortunately the price for these disastrous policies is being paid not by the elite decision makers but by the most ordinary of people at the bottom of the social ladder. Whilst all the main parties continue with their foolish Left-liberal policies and the population continue voting them into government, things can only get worse. What a sorry state. Only a distinct swing towards the Right and our traditional understanding of human nature and morality can save the situation.
