Reader’s comment: This bogus science

In response to Chris Morrison: Already a vintage year for climate claptrapOwen_Morgan wrote:

No IPCC report is ‘scientifically rigorous’. From the outset, every IPCC report is built upon the assumptions that global warming is happening, that it is man-made, that it is caused by carbon dioxide and that man can control the weather. Donna Laframboise has shown in detail how lax the IPCC’s processes are, always in favour of the Cause. There is a cut-off date for the admissibility of published articles, but the IPCC ignores that, if the paper in question makes a usefully sensational claim. Many IPCC contributors have no scientific qualifications at all, although, admittedly, now that climate science is an ideology rather than a discipline, the value of doctorates in the subject is questionable, to put it kindly.

With the IPCC, though, it just gets worse. When the Beebyanka trumpets the latest fanfare from the IPCC, it is almost invariably quoting the summary document for policy-makers, i.e. something concocted by civil servants for politicians and for public propaganda. In the through-the-small-hours sessions during which the summary is synthesised, the last vestiges of science are cast to the four winds; yet it is the summary which is publicised and treated as some kind of scientific gold standard.

To expect anything honest to emerge from the den of thieves which is the United Nations would be naïve. This is the organisation which allows Cuba and Iran to lecture everyone else on human rights, after all. Whether ideology-driven, or just lazy, however, journalists do trot out the IPCC summaries as purportedly scientific predictions, giving politicians free rein to impose absurd laws and regulations, in the name of pretending to save the planet.

At some point, even the politicians must know, the lights will go out if current policies continue. We have policy being devised by people simultaneously desperate to cling to power and to devolve decision-making upwards, to supranational bodies immune to democracy. All the while, they rely on bogus science. When we are shivering in darkness, they will tell us that it’s our own fault. The tragedy is that quite a few people will still believe that.
