Not my favourite person by any means. But I see Piers Morgan is in trouble for observing that the atrocity was not random but fuelled by an ideology in common with attacks in Europe and the Middle and Far East. And here’s the problem: his crime is to question the pretence each is an aberration. Not only is this appeasing pretence dangerous to us, it is ridiculous in the face of the frequent carnage meted out in cities from Africa to Afghanistan.

As a Mancunian I have to observe that last year the Chief Constable had to apologise because in an exercise, that was put into action for real on Monday night, at the huge Trafford Centre, the “jihadist” running into the Centre ready to kill and maim shouted the Arabic “God is great”. Weeks later this happened with the cry preceding indiscriminate killing in France.
