In response to James Mildred: It’s the Tories’ duty to end this tax penalty on families

Child Benefit rate per week per child needs to go up to reflect cost of living.
Allow couples to choose to be taxed as a household while there are dependent children relying on the same household income.
End the two child max tax credit limit – it’s caused untold hardship for families.
Restore the universal status of Child Benefit.
Allow the transferable tax allowance to be ‘fully’ transferable – not just a certain percentage of it – it would also be helpful to two working parents where one parent works for really low hourly rates, perhaps earning £5k – £8k a year or thereabouts (women earn very little when working part time, for example in care work, school hours only). Rename it the ‘family’ tax allowance not ‘marriage’ tax allowance and make it applicable only when there are dependent children.
There’s lots that Government could do, but they choose not to. Our politicians don’t want to encourage people to have a family life and for children to spend time cared for by parents – for some reason it’s considered unfashionable.
