Huffing and puffing (as so many people do) about the shortage of women in parliament is irrelevant as long as those women who do get there are high-flying career women with the same experiences as men.
What we desperately need are more middle-aged women who have spent much of their working-aged lives as mothers and housewives.
They might be able to bring a much-needed different perspective to a society which, increasingly, judges someone’s worth purely by the amount they earn.
