In response to Laura Perrins: Abortion, Brendan, is about women and babies, Bogbrush wrote:
As a former foetus myself who was discussed for abortion (since I was the accidental product of pre-marital sex by my parents back in the day), I don’t mind them using whatever words they want; it’s the effort to thereby devalue the person so labelled that is contemptible.
Zygote, Embryo, Foetus, Baby, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric – these are what we are called as we pass from nothingness to nothingness. It just seems odd that we get very excited about the birth canal, as if that makes a different to the person. Clearly it makes a big difference to the other person involved and I can handle debate based on that, but this dishonest crap where we use words to avoid the need to face up to facts is so insulting and betrays their own lack of confidence in their opinion.
